pillow talk

ok, this is really mattress talk, but i had to hook people somehow. I need a new mattress and i'm soliciting everyone for input. Please let me know what kind of mattress you have and what you like and don't like about it. I'm particularly interested in hearing about mattresses that improve sleep, because i could really use some help in that area.
in somewhat-related news, it's 2AMish and I believe I've actually woken at least 2 of the ARMY boyz with my puttering about the house, but then I couldn't exactly go up and ask if that's what happened. But the idea did cross my mind. Oy.

cute!

go here and check out the puzzle:

once you put all the pieces in place, a monster swims by. a big, green monster.

hmm...

so, i've also found many stamps that are from one country celebrating something from another county, for example, a US stamp celebrating Poland's millenial celebration. and these 2 gems, one from czechoslovakia celebrating charlie chaplin and one from india celebrating the lunar landing (as it actually happened in 1969, conspiracy theorists).

india stamps

not sure how readable these are, but the top 2 both read "small family happy family" and the bottom right reads "family planning". interesting. this must have been a big push in the 70s around the world, because there is also a US stamp encouraging family planning. i'm assuming the push started after the pill became widely available.

ahhh...spring.

this is the view when i pull into the carport now. these tulips are so happy and i love seeing them when i get home.

in other happy news, the ARMY boyz had a party last night and i heard none of it, because i had a great time on the West Side with Heidi and Kristi (yay!), and because of those awesome earmuff/headphone things i bought awhile ago for my workshop. they also work really well for blocking out the ridiculous sounds of college parties. double yay!!

exquisite

this may end up being my favourite stamp of all time. i have seen it in the collection, but this is the first time i've taken a good look at it. it is beautiful. i'm going to try to find one that's either unused or with less of a prominent postmark on it. by the way, if you would like to help with my collection, you can. just save the stamps off any envelopes you receive. it's easy and i would love that. they'll be sure to find a good home.

Ahhhh...relief

Well, I made it in, right at the deadline last night. And let me tell you, there were a few tense moments where I thought I wasn’t going to. I have to say that Tax Day is yet another day where I appreciate the fact that I am single. Single filers never have to consult with their sig-o, and there was no one there to yell at me for putting things off until the bitter end. Except Stella, who actually did start yelling at me at one point. I never know what she means when she does that.
Now that my taxes are done, I will be RICH when I get my return. However, soon after that, I will be POOR again, because I think it’s time for a new roof. So, bye-bye, tax refund. I’ve spent you before I even knew you. Oh, and one of my ARMY boyz made a comment to me about how you always have “your home equity line of credit” to tap into. Am I the only homeowner who doesn’t have one of those set up? It always seemed dangerous to me, as in, inviting me to spend money I shouldn’t on improvements I don’t really need. Fellow homeowners, what say ye?
In other good news, the ARMY boyz returned their signed lease last night, so it’s official that I have them for another entire year. YAY!

No Pity for Self-Infliction

This is a phrase that Cathy and I use whenever someone is complaining about something that is a result of their own choices. And I have a lot of those tonight:

1. I'm having a hard time sticking to my Weight Watchers program. This is largely because I do not plan, so at every meal (except oatmeal!), I find myself going "what should I have to eat?".

2. I left the limejuice out of the fridge on Friday night, so now I have to drink my Coronas without it (which is just NOT the same) until I get back to the store to get more. Again, I cause my own undoing.

3. This is the worst of all. It is an absolutely gorgeous evening, and I am going to be stuck inside, because I have waited until literally the last minute to finish my tax return. So, yeah. That's also ALL MY FAULT.

I hope everyone else has a great evening, though!!

Things

1. The License Plate says "GO CLTS". Yeah, I know, I'm like a 10-year-old with this stuff. What can I say?

2. UNRELATED: Let's talk beds, people. It's time for a new mattress (mine is probably 8 or 9 years old now) and I'm thinking TempurPedic. Anyone have anything to add?

3. If you have a second, go here: http://www.tempurpedic.com/TempurCMSVB/testimonials/ and tell me what you think (if anything) about the photo of Karen M. I'll post about my thoughts after you post yours.

4. Bri and Rob are back from Italy and they brought me some of the funniest gifts I have ever gotten, even for them. Keep in mind that these are the people who brought me the "oops, I pooped on your things" bunny magnet AND the "pornogami" book, and the new gifts top even those things. I do love my boys - thanks, guys!!

5. Yeah, I should be in bed by now, but I just don't want to go. I moved the TV out of my bedroom and I am about 90% certain that's why. I'd rather sit red-eyed on the sofa looking at the internet than miss a minute of anything on TV. Yes, I know how sad that is.

6. Clinton Kelly from What Not To Wear was in town on Saturday and I got to go with my amazing friend Kim and a couple of her friends. Clinton is uuuh--dorable. What a charmer! And he wore a cute argyle vest under a blazer. Ahhhh, love him.

7. The jewelry party was a smashing success. I found out today that I'm getting 10 items for about $100, total. Plus the approx $50 in supplies and food, about half of which was champagne, about 90% of which was drunk by me. So yeah, that's a sweet deal. Everything was so pretty and I can hardly wait for the order to arrive so I can start passing out things.

8. Yep, that's it. I'm out!

stay classy cincinnati.

what else can i say?

whoa.

so, some kind person dropped off this amish bread starter at my desk on friday, and i then forgot all about it and left without it. and so, when i walked around the corner and into my office, this pillow of yeasty fermentation had actually blown itself off of my desk and on to the floor. at least it didn't actually explode the bag. that would really have sucked.

sweet stamps

i got a new drying book for stamps this week, so i decided to do some soaking and drying this morning. i love stamps. they are like tiny pieces of art. i am trying to collect one of each US stamp ever printed. cubeneighbor thinks this is impossible. i think she has greatly underestimated the dullness of my life.

For Stella

LynnieT sent this to me:

And as someone on her email string said: “I don't know what is funnier - the outfits or the descriptions....” I agree.

Ohmigosh.

There is so much that is awesomely wrong about that web site that I don’t know where to start. I can tell you with certainty that if I ever got one of those on Stella, she would claw my eyes out while sleeping as revenge.

LOL - Stellanor is like an anti-suburb cat. She would claw your eyes out for something like that; while all the suburb cats would claw each other to get at a fancy new outfit like that.

Way to go, Heidi

I’m blaming this forecast on you.

Thanks to your whining about how “hot” it is, it’s going down to 21 on Saturday! Jerk.
